The Perk of Being Employee

There is absolutely nothing wrong with being an employee. And actually happy with it.
Seriously, being an entrepreneur slash social worker slash activist is not a life goal for everyone.

What is it in ur mind when u re dreaming of being an entrepreneur? Umm, lemme guess. Flexible working hour? Limitless amount of income? Any time vacation? Now lemme be straight forward to u one point at a time.

Flexible working hour. Yes, exactly. u can have a meeting at 8pm. Reading ur finance report at 11pm. Checking (and ofcz replying) ur email constantly at ur smart phone. Thinking about expansion during breakfast. Introducing ur business to potential partner which u accidentally meet while window shopping at the mall. U even give ur personal mobile phone number to ur business partner. And oh guess what, u still need to run the business during the day. So much for flexible working hour 'eh?

Limitless amount of income? Yeah right. That's only bcs no one ever said about limitless amount of expenses u need to take care of. Promotion, bills, space renting, internet, buying asset, paying ur employee's salary. U should know, u are the last person the business would pay in monthly steady basis.

Any time vacation. Did u mean "any time away-office". Whether u are checking email, thinking of opportunity, introducing ur business, getting an inspiration for expanding. Yes those things can be done any where. Away office. But never that far from ur mind.

Now let's discuss about 9-5 work.
u start to think about the job at 9 and u finish at 5. Then u went home, left ur laptop at the office, and live. Oh ur corporate email? who would ever push that email to personal smartphone? It's like 5 o'clock and it's done.

What's wrong with being happy with steady amount of income and health insurance? U know how much and when will u get the salary. U can plan ahead of what would u buy, how would u pay ur bills, routine investment, planning ur retirement plan, mortgage, etc etc. And when u mistakenly take an aggressive risk. It is not even ur money.

Annual leave. True that u have limited annual leave. But it is during this time u can completely forget about work and just chill. Give the embassy of ur destination country a recommendation letter from the company and boom, bon voyage, visa approved.

They say that u can be ur own boss. What's wrong with being a sub ordinate? If ur boss is doing what s/he is suppose to do, giving u guidelines, mentoring, freedom to express ur self in what u do, trusting u. what's wrong with that? So u say that u can do better than ur boss. Yeah right, if u can do better, u are now the boss. If u cannot lead ur self, how can u be a leader in ur own business?

If u and the company u re working with are sharing the same value, passion and purpose, why not grow with it? Embrace it. Make the best of it.

There is nothing wrong about being an employee. There is nothing special about being an entrepreneur slash social worker slash activist. It is not a life goal. It is all the matter of choices we made. And they come with their own set of consequences.

They say that if u don't live ur dream, someone would hire u to live theirs. But if u choose to become an entrepreneur only because ur friends are taking the same path or because it sounds cool or because those motivators said so, whose dream are u living?

Be true to ur self. Does ur boss is doing what s/he is suppose to do? Does the company share the same value, passion and purpose with u? Take a deep breath, make decision and be strong in facing all the consequences. Know where u want to be and draw a route to get there.

This is me, talking to my self.
